What a Discount Is in JeriCommerce

A discount is the actual saving your customer gets: 10 EUR off, 15% off, free shipping, or a free item. JeriCommerce creates discounts in your Shopify store. In the standard pre-generated flow, it creates a batch of codes and assigns one when a customer claims it.

This means the discount stays under your control. You can open it in Shopify to review its rules and code usage.

On-demand generation creates a Shopify code when a reward is redeemed or a coupon is assigned. See on-demand Shopify codes for availability and expiry options.

Where Discounts Are Used

The discount builder is used for rewards, coupons, and gift card campaigns. Code generation and reward point cost are separate choices.

Gift card campaigns use it too, handing out codes to shoppers who do not have a loyalty card yet. For a fixed reward, use Associated discounts; for a coupon, use Discount associated. There you can create a Shopify discount or upload your own codes. Points as cash uses Discount code and requires a Shopify discount.

The Four Discount Types

Fixed amount

A set amount off, like 10 EUR off the order.

Percentage

A share off the price, like 15% off.

Free shipping

Covers the shipping cost of the order.

Buy X get Y

Buy a set quantity, get another item at a percentage off.

Each type supports a different set of options. The full comparison is in Discount types.

Two Ways to Get Codes

JeriCommerce creates the discount in your Shopify store and generates codes for you. You choose the code format, the discount rules, and batch size.

This is the option most merchants use. Follow the setup walkthrough.

If your codes come from somewhere else, such as a partner promotion or third-party platform, upload them as a CSV file and JeriCommerce distributes them one per customer. CSV uploads use pre-generated codes. See Upload your own codes.

How Codes Reach Your Customers

1

The customer claims

They redeem a reward, receive a coupon, or open a campaign link.

2

JeriCommerce picks the next code

For pre-generated batches, codes are handed out one at a time, oldest first. Nobody receives a code already assigned to another customer. On-demand codes are created at assignment or redemption; see on-demand Shopify codes.

3

The customer uses it

They can copy the code, apply it straight to your store in one click, or add it to their Apple or Google Wallet.

Every code generated from 5 August 2026 onwards can only be used once, by one customer. Discounts you created before that date keep their original unlimited setting, so check them in Shopify if you want the same protection.

Keeping Codes in Stock

A pre-generated batch runs out as customers claim codes. Turn on Auto recharge for an eligible Shopify batch and JeriCommerce generates a fresh batch once 75% of the codes are claimed. Read more in Unique codes and auto recharge.

If every code in a pre-generated batch is claimed and auto recharge is off, JeriCommerce deactivates the reward, coupon, or campaign until you add more codes.
